Without those persuasive messages seem like a scam towards myself. Money is a huge reason people use persuasion. They approach you with a bunch of persuasion that may or may not be true to make commission, more money or simply just more business. It is also very easy to tell when someone is sincere and all in what they are asking for and someone that is just trying to make another $. Society recognizes a business person as a persuasive person when they are really business men and women doing whatever it takes to receive funding, and a majority of the time they try to persuade the seller to do so.

PWC 10: Persuasive Message

October 29, 2017

Dear WCC students and community members,

Windward Community College is the first and only Veterinary Technology AS degree in Hawai’i and the Veterinary Assisting certificate which leads to jobs in the veterinary medicine field. For Windward CC to thrive, we need a healthy mix of public and private funding. It’s up to us, the extended UH community, as well as citizens and community leaders, to take responsibility for Windward Community College’s future.

Veterinary Technology is among the five fastest-growing career fields in the nation. ‘Vet Techs’ perform vital tasks from assisting with physical exams to surgical assistance, from performing dental cleanings to conducting diagnostic laboratory tests. Hawai‘i’s Veterinarians are seeking trained professionals to do the job, and Windward Community College is now providing the training. Vet Techs are desperately wanted at animal shelters, lab animal facilities, and private veterinary practices (there are over 80 veterinary clinics in Hawai‘i). The program has now extended to students at Maui College and will rotate on to Hawaii Community College next year, followed by Kauai Community College next.

The Vet Tech Program is in need of your support-Now.

Each student is facing over $10,000 for the two-year program:

  • Student Tuition $6,336
  • Books $1,700
  • Laboratory Supplies $1,300
  • Uniforms $200
  • Fieldtrips $500
  • Exam Fees $300

The Program itself also critically needs your support for:

  • Portable Digital X-ray $50,000
  • Portable digital Ultrasound (for clinic and farm use) $45,000
  • X Ray Pet Positioner Set – Small (24″Lx10″Wx6″H) & Large (36″Lx14″Wx8″H) – $250.00
  • Equine dental equipment -power equipment $6,500
  • Veruca Freeze Cryosurgery $1,000
  • Sergical suction $1,000
  • Syringe pump $500

To support the sophisticated operations of the Vet Tech program and its students, funds are needed for scholarships and the equipment listed above. To encourage donor participation, limited- and permanent-naming opportunities are available. Would you like to name a cat condo, surgery room or exam table? We have naming and sponsoring opportunities ranging from $750 to $50,000.

To have a conversation about donating to the Vet Tech program, naming and sponsoring, helping to grow the Vet Tech Endowment, scholarships, or other questions you may have, please contact:

Today in class we talked about the Five Ss.

  1. Be selfless= Discuss the receiver, not the sender.
  2. Be specific= Instead of generic statements (You did a good job), include special details (Your idea to target key customers was important to the success of our project).
  3.  Be sincere= Show your honest feelings with conversational, unpretentious language (Congratulations on your award! Everybody knows how hard you’ve been working.).
  4.  Be spontaneous= Strive to make the message natural, fresh, and direct. Avoid canned phrases (If I may be of service, please do not hesitate…).
  5. Keep the message short= Remember that, although they may be as long as needed, most goodwill messages are fairly short.

Our group evaluated the following search strings by examining their results.

1.TRIO program (Alyha)

Google search:

TRiO is a federal program designed to help, support, and motivate students that come from different backgrounds. TRiO includes different supporting programs that were made to assist low-income, first-generation college students, and students with disabilities. TRiO doesn’t only help college students, they start helping middle schoolers to motivate them to go into college and once you are in college they will keep supporting you through your journey.

TRiO has different programs at Windward Community College, they are:

2.TRIO Educational Talent Search (Alyha)

Google search:

When I googled Trio Educational Talent Search I hoped to see a lot of information that had to do specifically with the educational talent program such as information about the help that they provide to the middle schoolers. They assist with SAT, ACT, FAFSA and also motivate them to attend college. When I googled none of this information came up. The only information that came up was about financial awards, department of education, and pictures about the TRiO logo. There was no information in detail about the ETS (Educational Talent Search) program.

Windward page:

https://windward.hawaii.edu/ETS/

When reading the title  ETS (Educational Talent Search) on the windward website it was misleading to me because when you read it without knowing any information about it, it sounds as if they are searching for talented students in the arts, music, and dance. Then you realize that the goal of this program is to increase the number of youth enrolled in middle school from grades six to twelve who are planning on attending college.

Some of their services and activities are:

-Assistance to SAT, ACT, and FAFSA.

-Assistance in enrolling in college.

-Mentoring opportunities.

-College campus field trips.

Some of the eligibility requirements:

-Grades 6-12

-Low income

-U.S citizens or eligible non-citizen
