I appreciate what Carson wrote in his Workplace Criticism because he acted according to his convictions and beliefs. Supposing I were the co-worker he described, I would be fortunate that he did not “rat” me out for smoking weed in the company truck, smoking weed all the time and driving under the influence. Besides chilling, stealing hours and cutting corners, I escaped being arrested, jeopardized my co-workerʻs safety and risked liability for the company that paid me. On the other hand, was Carsonʻs silence in fear of retaliation or deferring reprimand to the proper superior.

In all honesty, I should be fired as most companies have a strict no alcohol and drug tolerance policy in the workplace. Should the company decide to suspend me pending completion of a drug rehabilitation program, I should grateful and take advantage of their offer whether or not I am rehired.

Workplace Critics

My pet peeve criticism about my workplace is the microwave oven that co-workers inconsiderately leave messy with splashes and spills of dried, burnt food! I guess they think that their mother works there and will pick up after them. However, these are reasons people criticize each other: People are lazy and don’t do their job … Continue reading Workplace Critics

My pet peeve criticism about my workplace is the microwave oven that co-workers inconsiderately leave messy with splashes and spills of dried, burnt food! I guess they think that their mother works there and will pick up after them.

However, these are reasons people criticize each other:

  1. People are lazy and don’t do their job so they point out other’s faults.
  2. Co-workers complain about another person to gain favor with upper echelon.
  3. People are envious or jealous of co-workers so they spread negative gossip.
  4. Employees are quick to complain about the personal habits of individuals i.e. how they dress, what they eat, what they drive, leisure activities, favorite music, bathroom and break habits or who they hang with.
  5. Workers are quick to fault an employee, but, slow to appreciate or recognize their achievements/accomplishments.
  6. Some workers criticize, complain and whine because they are not recognized for their efforts.

Guidelines for giving criticism in the work place:

  1. Be kind, but assertive when necessary and criticize discreetly.
  2. Be team oriented, avoid cliques.
  3. Be punctual, return on time from breaks and leave at proper time.
  4. Be mindful of co-workers help out or support when possible.
  5. Be positive whenever possible; appreciate your bosses and co-workers.
  6. Be responsible for your actions and accountable to yourself.

Yahoo! not Yoohoo!

Hey class, I am blogging a Yahoo! to share that I believe my analogy of not reading too much into the “Essential of Business Communications“chapters and not doing the chapter reviews, writing exercises or activities at the end has dramatically helped to improve my recall practice scores. Hey class, download

I am blogging a Yahoo! to share that I believe my analogy of not reading too much into the “Essential of Business Communications“chapters and not doing the chapter reviews, writing exercises or activities at the end has dramatically helped to improve my recall practice scores. As a matter of fact, my last three recall practices were all correct so I didn’t have to blog for awhile. As I said previously, tests, quizzes, and exams all make me hyperventilate so guess its time to exhale.

Preliminary Ground Work Memo

Date: October 24, 2017

To: Professor Lance Uyeda

From: TEAM 4: Alyha, Chad, Shelia, Spencer, Wanda

Subject: Ground Work Memo

Overview: The purpose of this project is to hopefully persuade U. S. Representative David P. Roe (R-Tennessee District I) https://roe.house.gov/ to make changes that will improve the current GI Bill and alleviate some of the problems recipients currently encounter or have faced. We divided the project into three subtopics: Wanda and Spencer will be researching the history of GI Bill. Shelia will be relating her experience as a dependent spouse. Chad will be sharing his personal experience as a recipient and the problems he faces. Alyha will be researching the future of the GI Bill and its effects on future veterans/reservists.

Preliminary Research: Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard is a U.S politician and Army Veteran. She is an excellent source because she served in the military and represents the 2nd Congressional District of Hawaii. She can be contacted at TulsiOffice@mail.house.gov (808) 541-1986. Karen Puu works at Windward Community College VA Office as a coordinator on behalf of student veterans and can be contacted at kpuu@hawaii.edu  or (808) 235-7431. She is an expert on veteran affairs and oversees WCC’s  student veteran’s program.

Question 1 A persuasive message should open immediately with its suggestion or request. Answer: False Again, I misread the question Chapter 8 pg. 213 Opening: suggest reader benefits; not open immediately with its suggestion. In the  Body: is where the purpose of the request is made.

Question 4 Itʻs not important in a persuasive message for the recipient to have some idea about the senderʻs knowledge or experience. Answer. False Its those + – questions that get me confused. I guess it is important for the sender to establish credibility according to Body Chapter 8 pg. 213.

Question 6 Aspects of persuasion include 1) logic/reasoning, 2) emotional appeals, and 3) speakerʻs credibility. Answer: True  All the aspects can be found in Chapter 8:  1) Logical Development pg. 216, 2) Rational, Emotional and Dual Appeal pg. 222 and 3) Establishing credibility pg. 213 although like Question 4 I think it is hidden and not outlined or emphasized.

This fall 2017, I was fortunate to be a recipient of the “Phil Hagstrom Endowed Scholarship” as part of the UH Commons Scholarship Program. Unaware of who he was,  I  decided to do a little research about my benefactor. I learned that Professor Hagstrom was a faculty member who taught history here at Windward Community College for over twenty-five years  He was an avid reader with quite a collection of books that were donated and the proceeds allocated toward his scholarship fund.

This endowment has enabled me to pursue an Associates Degree and eventually a Bachelor’s in Fine Arts. It is my hope that you will continue his legacy through future contributions from the Windward campus, the University of Hawai’i System and other community donors to benefit future students.

Question 2 Bad news, whether in person or in writing, s usually better received when reasons are given first. Answer-True. I chose True because I highlighted it in the margin of my textbook on pg. 191, but, it did not record and I didn’t notice that until I checked my score.
