Criticism:

I am going to be blogging about Corey’s blog:

“Always being late, hygiene, micromanagement, talks down to others, being a one upper, being too bossy, bad work ethic, sharing too much…

If you must be, try for constructive criticism, show the other person that there is another way to go about things, instead of saying they are blatantly wrong.”

I want to say that none of the above apply to me because

  1. I am always on time to work
  2. I am a very clean person
  3. I am not a control freak
  4. I like to support other for them to be succesfull
  5. I am bossy when I need to be
  6. I am kind and patient to customers
  7. I mind my own businesses

So I am going to take his criticism as a positive thing and make any changes to better myself. I will also make sure to always have a bottle of perfume close to me when he is around.

7.An indirect organizational pattern is recommended for persuasive messages because presenting the recipient with reasons and benefits first increases the likelihood that s/he will understand the full extent of, and respond to, your request.

5. Which example implies a refusal to open the Manaleo bathrooms, most effectively cushioning the bad news?

I answered letter B. Thank you for sharing your concerns. Unfortunately, because of a sewage pipe break, the bathrooms will not be reopened until further notice. They hope to complete their work as soon as possible.

6. Jensen has five questions to ask his reader in a routine information request. What is the best way to present these questions? (Ch 6 review)

I answer letter D. In a follow-up email or letter. The correct answer was letter B. In a bulleted or numbered list in the body of his message.

7. Viva Veggiemeister is declining an invitation to speak about the health benefits of juice bars at the fall conference of the Health and Fitness Trainers Association (HAFTA). Which of the following is the most effective buffer?

I answered with letter C. Because you requested only the benefits of juice bars, as a registered dietitian I am not the speaker you need; perhaps you should contact a juice bar salesperson. The correct answer was letter B. HAFTA members must be looking forward to your annual fall conference to be held at the Turtle Bay Resort this year.

Today in class we talked about the Five Ss.

  1. Be selfless= Discuss the receiver, not the sender.
  2. Be specific= Instead of generic statements (You did a good job), include special details (Your idea to target key customers was important to the success of our project).
  3.  Be sincere= Show your honest feelings with conversational, unpretentious language (Congratulations on your award! Everybody knows how hard you’ve been working.).
  4.  Be spontaneous= Strive to make the message natural, fresh, and direct. Avoid canned phrases (If I may be of service, please do not hesitate…).
  5. Keep the message short= Remember that, although they may be as long as needed, most goodwill messages are fairly short.
