I have learned a lot of new information from our group project on Pell Grants.  We are a group of 4 and my contributions are researching on proposed cuts Past and Present, distribution of funding and any other duties to make our project beneficial to our readers.  In the past, I have worked in groups and  found every time is an opportunity for me to grow and learn from others, whether my experiences are negative or positive.  It’s all a learning process to do better the next time I’m in a group.  Personally, I have found working in groups can be difficult at times.  But being here at WCC it’s one of the benefits I will take with me as I move on to UH Manoa.  But I have heard from others already at UH that you’re pretty much on your on and if you don’t care, then who will?

Trouble with student loans

Between spending hundreds of dollars in textbooks each semester and scrapping enough money together for rent and groceries, college is a financial burden.  Between house, utility, car and the other payments necessary maintain a home, my family doesn’t have thousands of dollars to spare annually. Multiplied by four years, it’s an intimidating number to face. That is why my group is doing research on the whole Federal student loan process.

For many students whose parents annual income is too high to qualify for federal financial aid, but too low to personally finance one or more college educations, the price has become an all too common fear. These students and their families must often resort to borrowing a cocktail of loans in order to finance an education at a four-year institution.

On recall practice umber eight the first time i tried it I got question number two wrong, which was: 2. I answered false, the correct answer was TRUE.  But then I realized that I could try the … Continue reading Recall practice #8

On recall practice umber eight the first time i tried it I got question number two wrong, which was:

2. If readers need to be educated or persuaded, you should consider giving your report an indirect organizational pattern. I answered false, the correct answer was TRUE.

But then I realized that I could try the quiz again I went ahead and redid it ha ha ha. So I did not have to do another blog, but here it is just to say it’s fair.

Recall practice #7

Recall number seven I got three questions wrong: 1.Emails should have compelling subject lines, possibly with names and dates. I answered it as false, when the correct answer was TRUE. 2.In the closing of a routine information or request email, it’s best not to include an action statement or summary. 2.In the closing of a routine information or request email, it’s best not to include an action statement or summary. I answered it as true, when the correct answer was FALSE.

7.An indirect organizational pattern is recommended for persuasive messages because presenting the recipient with reasons and benefits first increases the likelihood that s/he will understand the full extent of, and respond to, your request.

I answered it as false, and the correct answer was TRUE.

For recall practice number size I only got one question wrong. I got number one incorrectly.

  1. A persuasive message should open immediately with its suggestion or request. I answered with true, and the correct answer was FALSE! A persuasive message should not open immediately with its suggestion or request.

Recall practice #5

For recall practice number five I got five wrong: Numbers… 1.Passive-voice verbs enable you to depersonalize an action. I answered false, and the correct answer was TRUE! 3. The components of effective negative messages are: I answered letter B. Buffer, bad news, reasons, and closing. For recall practice number five I got five wrong:

Numbers…

1.Passive-voice verbs enable you to depersonalize an action. I answered false, and the correct answer was TRUE!

3. The components of effective negative messages are: I answered letter B. Buffer, bad news, reasons, and closing. Correct answer was letter A. Buffer, reasons, bad news, and closing.

5. Which example implies a refusal to open the Manaleo bathrooms, most effectively cushioning the bad news?

I answered letter B. Thank you for sharing your concerns. Unfortunately, because of a sewage pipe break, the bathrooms will not be reopened until further notice. The correct answer was letter C.  Although repairs on the bathrooms must continue at a safe pace to ensure cleanliness and safety when they reopen, the maintenance crew reports that they are making good progress. They hope to complete their work as soon as possible.

6. Jensen has five questions to ask his reader in a routine information request. What is the best way to present these questions? (Ch 6 review)

I answer letter D. In a follow-up email or letter. The correct answer was letter B. In a bulleted or numbered list in the body of his message.

7. Viva Veggiemeister is declining an invitation to speak about the health benefits of juice bars at the fall conference of the Health and Fitness Trainers Association (HAFTA). Which of the following is the most effective buffer?

I answered with letter C. Because you requested only the benefits of juice bars, as a registered dietitian I am not the speaker you need; perhaps you should contact a juice bar salesperson. The correct answer was letter B. HAFTA members must be looking forward to your annual fall conference to be held at the Turtle Bay Resort this year.

I’m not sure if it’s too late to do a blog about this but I’m going to blog about in-class recall practice 8.

This time was no different from almost all the other times It took these, I got the classic 6/7 like I usually do.  Not matter how I confident or unsure I feel when I submit my answers I’ll always get a 6/7.

This time around I got question 2 wrong.  The question was:

True or false:

If readers need to be educated or persuaded, you should consider giving your report an indirect organizational pattern.

I picked false because I thought that you’d want to be direct with your audience when you’re trying to persuade your audience.  However, I should have known it was true because I just remembered that persuasive messages just like negative messages you want to be indirect with those.

Effective Persuasive Techniques

I think the only way to effectively write a persuasive messages is that the writer shows personal emotions in their message, they also believe in and are knowledgeable about the topic. Without those persuasive messages seem like a scam towards myself. Money is a huge reason people use persuasion. I think the only way to effectively write a persuasive messages is that the writer shows personal emotions in their message, they also believe in and are knowledgeable about the topic. Without those persuasive messages seem like a scam towards myself. Money is a huge reason people use persuasion. They approach you with a bunch of persuasion that may or may not be true to make commission, more money or simply just more business. It is also very easy to tell when someone is sincere and all in what they are asking for and someone that is just trying to make another $. Society recognizes a business person as a persuasive person when they are really business men and women doing whatever it takes to receive funding, and a majority of the time they try to persuade the seller to do so.
