Clog #2

I’m clogging about Wanda’s blogs. I like how she adds interesting pictures to all her blogs, it’s interesting  to see what kind of graphics she’ll be using next (I like the chicken nuggets picture). I’m also glad relaxing a bit more on the in-class recall tests has worked out for her as she’s constantly working … Continue reading Clog #2

I’m also glad relaxing a bit more on the in-class recall tests has worked out for her as she’s constantly working on something. Wanda’s work ethic reminds me there’s always room for improvement and that there’s levels to this stuff.

A few of her reasons why people criticize each other are actually some of the things I have been working on, for example:

  • getting to work late.
  • taking a work key with me.

In the past I have responded to these types of criticism positively. I knew the person was telling me these things because it would not only benefit my co-workers but would also help me in the long run. My co-worker was able to break down that being on time is a sign of being responsible and shows your company/co-workers you can be depended on as your co-workers don’t need to worry about when or if you’ll be at work.  I also have accidentally forgotten to return a work key and I’m more careful about returning the key when I’m done before doing other things because I know how it affects others when someone else forgets to return the key.

Reasons why people criticize others..

To: Professor Lance Uyeda

From: TEAM 4: Alyha, Chad, Shelia, Spencer, Wanda.

Subject: Ground Work Memo

Overview: The purpose of this project is to hopefully persuade Rep. David Roe to make changes that will improve the current GI Bill and alleviate some of the problems recipients currently or have faced. We divided the project into three subtopics. Wanda and Spencer will be researching the history of GI Bill. Shelia will be sharing her experience as a Dependent. Chad will be sharing his experience as a recipient and the problems he faces. Alyha will be researching the future of the GI Bill and its effects on future veterans/reservists.

Preliminary Research: Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard is a U.S politician and Army Veteran. She is an expert source because she served in the military and represents the 2nd Congressional District of Hawaii. She can be contacted at TulsiOffice@mail.house.gov, (808) 541-1986. Karen Puu works at WCC VA Office as a coordinator on behalf of student veterans and can be contacted at (808) 235-7431. She is also an excellent source because she oversees the veteran’s programs at WCC.

For question 2: You should consider approaching an audience that needs to be educated about your topic–especially if it’s a complex topic–as though you’re presenting bad news.

I missed this question due to rushing and not taking the time to read the question good. Had I read the question carefully I think I would have gotten the question right. After reading it over I realized the part that should have given it away is the part that says “a complex topic” because of course if your talking to a group who don’t have a deep understanding about your topic your going to include more details and spend more time explaining things and it would be formatted closer to how one would format presenting bad news. I think it just felt like presenting bad news and educating an audience would be different so I chose false.

Recall Practice 2

For our recall practice 2 I got #3, #7 wrong. #3. Which sentence uses the “active voice”? I don’t recall why I A) A customer service blog was initiated last year instead of the correct answer B) The manager completed performance reviews for all employees. #7.  Which of the following about the direct organizational strategy … Continue reading Recall Practice 2

#3. Which sentence uses the “active voice”? I don’t recall why I A) A customer service blog was initiated last year instead of the correct answer B) The manager completed performance reviews for all employees.

#7.  Which of the following about the direct organizational strategy is incorrect?

I misread the question which is a recurring theme in my blogs about our recall tests but I thought we were choosing which one was correct so when it asks “Which of the following about the direct organizational strategy is incorrect”? I chose B) It sets a proper frame of mind putting the messages purpose up front.

Recall Practice 7

I got number 7 wrong because I was thinking names and dates would be in the body of the email and the subject line would contain a brief statement which encompasses what the email is about. And looking back through Ch. 5 on page 108 it doesn’t say anything about adding names or dates to … Continue reading Recall Practice 7

Page 108 also states that action information including dates and deadlines are included in the closing.

For recall practice 6 I got number 2 wrong. I was thinking that approaching an audience that needs to be educated on a topic is different than giving someone bad news so the answer should be false. Again if I took the time to think through the question better I would have concluded that they are structured similarly in that they both include details and ease into the subject.

Recall Practice 5

I got number 2 wrong because for some reason I got the diagram of the buffer-closing stuck in my head and answered false to the question “Bad news, whether in person or in writing, is usually better received when reasons are given first”. I was thinking that the buffer is first so the answer would … Continue reading Recall Practice 5

I got number 2 wrong because for some reason I got the diagram of the buffer-closing stuck in my head and answered false to the question “Bad news, whether in person or in writing, is usually better received when reasons are given first”. I was thinking that the buffer is first so the answer would be false because reasons are given second for example in the next question.

#3 The components of effective negative messages are:

Buffer, reasons, bad news, and closing.

I think I may have gotten the question right if the question stated “Bad news …is better received when reasons are given before the bad news.

For this recall practice test I missed #7 “Business English is a necessary prerequisite for taking this course” I rushed through this question not catching the part where “necessary prerequisite ” is repetitive and stating Business English is a prerequisite for taking this course would be more consise.
