Personally, I am not comfortable in a leading position as I don’t feel I have enough confidence at times. It is something i’ll definitely need to work on, possibly even within this group project. Although I’m not strong in leading, I am strong within fulfilling requirements, communicating, and assisting with decision making. I find that discussing until a consensus is reached may be the best, most efficient way. This way group members can get all their ideas out, and come up together with the best solution. Also, through past experiences, staying up-to-date or possibly even ahead of due dates/schedule allows the project to run more smoothly with minimal errors or conflicts.
My understanding of the formal research project, is that as a team we are to compose a memo addressing an overview of the research topic we’ve chosen. Currently, to my knowledge we will be conducting the research on the cost of living in Hawaii as opposed to other states. Our team has not chosen a specific state to compare with just yet, but I am sure the information will be interesting regardless. I feel the entire topic in and of itself is important to research, to gain knowledge and a better understanding of the seemingly insufficient funding residents receive when compared elsewhere. As for the best current options for follow-up research on this topic, I would say we have EBSCO and google (while verifying reliability of sites).
To help my team achieve 7’s on the pit stop form, I will (1) encourage learning and development of myself and team members. All while making good use of our different abilities, knowledge, and experiences. (2) Ensuring our goals are clear to all and we care about the goals while remaining committed. (3) Control is shared within the group, and everyone takes initiative. (4) The team comes to a consensus on decisions, and different ideas are integrated. (5) The team takes and gives feedback on what we are doing well or areas that we need to improve. (6) If conflicts come up, we openly express them and address them accordingly. (7) We will listen attentively, understand and are understood. (8) We can trust in each other, and openly express our feelings. (9) We are innovative, flexible and diverse. We encourage trying different things and experimenting.

Dear Boss,

We have noticed everyone here at Champs has been working diligently, and exceeding sales goals weekly. Due to the company and customer’s satisfaction, we are suggesting to reward the employees by offering happy hour once a month at Buffalo Wild Wings. With the company covering for the first two drinks and an appetizer. From there on, all employees will be responsible for their own tab.

Happy hour would benefit employees because it will keep their morale up, and show that company supports their hard work. Statistics also show that, a happy employee is more productive. Hence, being further beneficial for the company.

Sincerely,

Brittany Cook, John Danao, Corey Weaver, Brandon Najarian

Dear Starbucks,

Please credit my Starbucks account, No. 00001234 with the price of $5.87, to correct an erroneous vanilla soy latte.

On September 18, I ordered a vanilla soy latte, and received a vanilla latte with dairy milk instead. I did not notice the mistake, until I was already at work. I’ve been ordering the same drink for the past few months, and I noticed that the taste was different. I am lactose intolerant, which is why I would greatly appreciate soy. I did verify on the cup that what I ordered was translated correctly, just not created correctly.

Please credit my Starbucks account as soon as possible, so I may enjoy my usual morning beverage tomorrow.

Sincerely,

Brittany and John

Irony.

Ah, the irony! On Wednesday, when we had our recall practice test I got one question wrong. The ONE question that just so happens… I WROTE MYSELF. I can’t remember the question verbatim, as you could probably tell I must have horrible memory. However, I know the answer was “front loading.” How could I make… Continue reading Irony.

Ah, the irony! On Wednesday, when we had our recall practice test I got one question wrong. The ONE question that just so happens… I WROTE MYSELF. I can’t remember the question verbatim, as you could probably tell I must have horrible memory. However, I know the answer was “front loading.” How could I make such a rookie mistake you ask? I really don’t know myself. Maybe I was thinking too hard, I tend to do that a lot. Anyhow, I just wanted to share this thought with you all. Have a great weekend!

CONTEXT MATTERS.

As recently stated by #PewDiePie2017, context matters! Coming from a “traditional” Japanese/Korean family, I have been raised in a high-context family. As we’ve discussed in class and in the book, high-context communicators assume the perceiver is already briefed and does not need more information. As recently stated by #PewDiePie2017, context matters! Coming from a “traditional” Japanese/Korean family, I have been raised in a high-context family. As we’ve discussed in class and in the book, high-context communicators assume the perceiver is already briefed and does not need more information. Additionally, often times they say “yes” when they really mean “no.” There are several variables that contribute to the speaker conveying if they truly mean yes or no. This includes the context, tone/inflection, amount of time taken to answer, expressions, and body cues. A personal example of this, is often times when I am asked to do a favor or request that is quite possibly inconvenient, I say yes even though I’d like to say no. However, in an effort to “save face” or avoid conflict, I would do it anyway. High-context cultures value relationships and peace, while avoiding confrontation or competition. I feel this conformity (so to speak) certainly roots from observing and conditioning through a high-context family. All in all, this really stood out for me because I can totally relate.

Welcome everyone,

I suppose for starters, I wanted to briefly talk about my first impressions of our Business Writing class. Initially, I was quite nervous of the fact that it’s 1) Writing Intensive and 2) Business Writing. However, I am sure I will acquire useful and valuable skills throughout this class. I have taken Interpersonal Speech last semester and I’ve noticed similarities as far as being an effective communicator goes. I also will have the occasional guidance of my mother who has a degree in Secretarial Science 🙂 The class does seem laid back and the pace is manageable… so far anyway. I am looking forward to becoming comfortable and confident in Business Writing this semester!
